About Edinburgh Association of Spiritualists
Founded in 1901, the Edinburgh Association of Spiritualists is one of Scotland’s oldest Spiritualist churches and has served as a long-standing centre for Spiritualist worship, evidential mediumship, spiritual healing and development work. The church is affiliated with the Spiritualists’ National Union (SNU) and has supported generations of Spiritualists through its regular services, classes and educational activities. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s strong advocacy for Spiritualism helped shape the environment in which the church grew, and its present home at 25 Palmerston Place—now known as the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre—reflects the continuing influence of his contributions to Spiritualist thought in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh has a long history of organised Spiritualism dating back to the late nineteenth century, a period when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle — the Edinburgh-born author of the Sherlock Holmes stories and a prominent advocate of Spiritualism — was actively engaged in promoting the religion through his writings and public lectures.
Visitor Information
The church operates inside the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre in Edinburgh’s West End, close to Haymarket Station and well served by trams and buses. Limited on-street parking is available in the surrounding area, and visitors should check local restrictions before attending services.
