🌼✨ Ikebana Retreat: The Way of Flowers in Pátzcuaro, Mexico ✨🌼

Celebrate the days leading up to Día de los Muertos in the heart of Mexico with the tranquil and transformative art of Ikebana flower arranging. This immersive 5-day retreat, guided by Anjie Cho and Barbara Craig, offers a unique blend of mindfulness, meditation, and the ancient Japanese floral art known as Ikebana — all in the sacred setting of Casa Werma, a renowned center for dharma practice and spiritual renewal.

🌸 What Is Ikebana and Why Practice It?

Ikebana, or the “way of flowers,” is a contemplative practice rooted in the spiritual traditions of Zen Buddhism and Taoism. Participants learn to arrange flowers mindfully, discovering how to connect with the qi (life force energy) of nature. This practice invites clarity, calm, and artistic expression, making it a beautiful complement to meditation and inner work.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced floral designer, this flower arranging retreat in Mexico is open to all levels. No artistic background required!

🧘‍♀️ What You’ll Learn

Retreat activities include guided meditation sessions to deepen awareness and daily instruction in Ikebana flower arranging using traditional techniques. Teachings are inspired by Buddhist and Taoist traditions and emphasize a deeper connection with the life force of each flower. Guests will journey into the cempasúchil flower fields and collaboratively create a Día de los Muertos altar and floral mandala.

Each participant receives a complete Ikebana starter kit, including Japanese kenzan, a suiban-style container, and floral scissors — all to take home.

🌼 Retreat Schedule and Flow

The retreat begins October 22 with a welcome dinner and orientation. From October 23 to 26, participants enjoy morning Qi Gong, immersive floral sessions, group meals, and evening circle discussions. Each day includes a midday rest for personal integration or exploring the town of Pátzcuaro. October 27 concludes the retreat with a farewell breakfast and closing space for reflection.

🏡 Where You’ll Stay

Guests may choose their level of comfort. Options include a King Suite at Estancia de la Era, Queen or Full rooms, peaceful camping in the garden, or commuter access for those arranging nearby lodging. Each tier includes all meals, tuition, and workshop materials. Casa Werma partners with Estancia de la Era, or guests may book independently at a local hotel or Airbnb.

🌍 Sustainable Travel to Casa Werma

Participants are encouraged to fly into Morelia International Airport, located just 90 minutes from Casa Werma. Roundtrip private ground transport is available for $80 USD each way. To support sustainable tourism, Casa Werma offsets participant travel through The Good Traveler carbon program.
