In this playful cosmic odyssey, philosopher Alan Watts – counterculture icon and spiritual prankster – spends his final night on Earth in conversation with nothing less than the universe itself. Out Of My Head: Alan Watts Is Alive And Well… Dead swirls together humor, wisdom, and a touch of the surreal, echoing a famous question Watts once posed: “I wonder what you would do if you had the power to dream any dream you wanted to dream.” It’s a mind-bending dialogue that dances at the edge of reality and imagination, inviting the audience into a conspiratorial wink from the cosmos.

At the same time, in a hospital bed in present-day London, Jeremy Stockwell conjures a parallel encounter with his unwitting mentor. The actor channels his philosophical hero from across time and space, blurring the line between fact and fantasy. What unfolds from this unlikely mind-meld is a performance as unpredictable as it is poignant – a surreal yet heartfelt exploration of consciousness, love, sex, vodka, and mortality 🍸🌀💀.

This original production comes with the blessing of the Alan Watts Estate, ensuring the late thinker’s legacy is honored even as it’s joyfully toyed with. Stockwell’s script brims with mischievous insight, crackling with the kind of mind-expanding wit that inspires both laughter and thoughtful introspection. Longtime Watts devotees will catch echoes of his wisdom, while newcomers will be swept into an illuminating experience that stands on its own. The tone stays conspiratorial yet warm – as if the universe itself were sharing a secret, delivered with a smile.

For one week only, this cosmic rendezvous takes place at The Cockpit in London: Monday 14 to Saturday 19 April at 7:30pm each evening, with an extra 3:00pm matinee on Wednesday 16th ⏳. All tickets are £16, with no booking fees 🎟️. For those looking to delve even deeper into the mystery, a post-show Q&A follows the performance on Tuesday 15 April 💬, inviting questions and shared revelations. Out Of My Head is written and performed by Jeremy Stockwell and directed by Terry Johnson 🎭. Presented by The Cockpit and supported by the Alan Watts Estate 🙌, these performances are special work-in-progress previews ahead of an Edinburgh Festival run 🌄. In other words, it’s a first glimpse at a mind-expanding journey before it launches to a wider world – a true treat for seekers, skeptics, and anyone curious about the big questions wrapped in witty storytelling.
